AbstractSupporting Activism and Litigation: Geography and Oil & Gas Development Track: Ecology, Archaeology, and Conservation Author(s): Doug Pflugh Consumer demand, current administration priorities, and world and national events have created a sense of urgency surrounding development of oil and gas resources in the Western U.S. This urgency must be replaced with a reasoned approach if public values such as air and water quality, wilderness, and traditional lifestyles are to be conserved. Work performed for Earthjustice, a non-profit environmental law firm, and public interest and environmental groups will illustrate the use of GIS to cut through rhetoric and accurately convey the benefits and risks of energy development activities. Specific topics will include issue identification, litigation support, and public outreach.
