AbstractBase GIS Layers Tool for Retrieving ArcSDE Data Track: Federal Government Systems Author(s): Devlin Fung, Tracy McLane The Base GIS Layers Tool, developed at the Savannah River Site, allows users to add ArcSDE GIS layers as themes to an ArcGIS or ArcView 3.x project map display through a customized Graphic User Interface (GUI) search engine. Users can search for GIS layers by category or keyword, as well as preview each layer and its metadata, making it easier for infrequent users to find base layers. Once selected, each layer is given a common name and standardized legend, saving users time in building GIS projects. This tool will streamline and standardize the base map production process.
