Abstract
Thin Client Internet GIS with ArcIMS and ActiveX

The INSIDE Idaho Data Clearinghouse development team was tasked with deploying Internet GIS applications that could be accessed by the general public on low bandwidth connections using a variety of web browsers. Meeting these design challenges required creative hardware and software systems design and the tuning of every system component to achieve maxim performance. This paper will present how the development team met its design challenges using ArcIMS. Topics will cover design criteria, deployment platform, standards support, and GIS database integration. Specific technologies addressed will include ArcIMS 3.1, ArcIMS ActiveX Connector, ArcIMS WMS connector, ArcSDE, SQL Server, ASP, and more!
