AbstractFrom GIS Specialist to Environmental Professional, Environmental Geographic Information System Track: Environment Management Author(s): Michael Kuhn, Judy Lamey The size and complexity of environmental investigation and monitoring programs at both industrial and governmental levels continue to evolve. As a result the enormity of data often exceeds the capacity of simple tools like paper reports and spread sheets as well as limits its accessibility. This paper presents the benefits of using environmental geographic information system to migrate the flow of data and information from the GIS Specialist to the Environmental Scientist. The design of user-friendly and qualified interfaces to data, made accessible locally or via the internet, is a key development in modern environmental management. Michael Kuhn Tetra Tech NUS, Inc.
