AbstractCensus 2000 : GIS Analysis of Migration & Commuting Patterns and Characteristics Track: Census and Geo-Demographics Author(s): Priti Mathur, Michael Batutis, Bonny Berkner Commuting patterns and characteristics are described by many factors like place of work, means of transportation to work, number of persons in the vehicle, time of departure for work, usual travel time to work, etc. Migration/geographic mobility is a comparison between the current place of residence to the place of residence one year earlier. To facilitate the review and analysis of the Census 2000 migration and journey to work data, Arcbridge Consulting under contract with the Count Review Branch of the Census Bureau is developing an ArcIMS-based tool to review Census 2000 Sample data. This tool will allow analysts to "visualize" possible errors in the geocoding process, visualize the location of various geographic entities that do not meet expected criteria, and use adjacency to determine the "reasonableness" of the data.
