AbstractWild Side of GIS, From the San Diego Wild Animal Park Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Steve McCarthy, Mark Huston, Cary Sharp A chronicle of the San Diego Wild Animal quest to establish a GIS from the ground up. The Park started with ArcView, ArcPad, and a Trimble GPS unit. The facilitators needed the water, electrical, and various other portions of the infrastructure mapped for permits with Local, State, and Federal agencies in a short period of time (less than a year). Using Merrick & Company, inconjuction with a photogrammerty project that San Diego County Water Authority was doing acquired half-foot color ortho photography and two-foot contour data. This provided the ground to work up from.
