AbstractLand-use Change Beyond the Park Boundary Track: Environment Management Author(s): Brian Witcher, Peter Budde, Sunil Narumalani National Park Service project analyzes land-use change surrounding three midwestern parks. Use of historic aerial photography (1930's, 1960's, and 1990's) to identify extent and rate of land-use change. The focus of this monitoring effort is to document location and extent of natural/semi-natural vegetation surrounding small prairie parks. Interpretation will be enhanced through use of current multi-spectral imagery. Calculation of fragmentation and other spatial metrics will describe landscape change. Additional products will show areas of encroachment (human development and exotic invasive plants), wildlife corridors, and plant colonization sources. These analyses will help determine threats to the long-term sustainability of park resources. Brian Witcher National Park Service Wilson's Creek NB 6424 W.
