AbstractGIS and Retail Agriculture: The Farmers Market Connection Track: Agriculture Author(s): Johanna Meyer, Allison Brown Across the US some three thousand markets serve millions of customers and provide income to many thousands of farm families. Market organizers choose locations, recruit farmers, and advise them on product mix without the benefit of modern tools of location analysis used in other retail sectors. We will present a pilot study using the case of Quincy Center, Massachusetts. The methodology includes demographic and transport analysis of the potential customer base, comparison of market sites, farmer access, product mix, and price. We believe that this is the first analysis of its type to be undertaken in the US.
