AbstractMapping Community-Level Housing and Related Data on the Web Track: Federal Government Systems Author(s): David Chase, Jon Sperling During the past year, HUD has contracted to develop an enterprise Geographic Information System (GIS), with the goal of making the agency's spatial and spatially-related housing and related data available via the Internet. State and local governments, academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and others can use this information to aid in community development and planning. While completion of a fully operable enterprise system is not yet realized, the current system offers easy integrated access to an increasing variety of HUD and other agency georeferenced datasets (e.g., EPA, Census, FEMA). Future challenges include enhanced horizontal and vertical integration capabilities, development of spatial analytic tools, and new approaches for handling confidential geospatial information.
