AbstractGIS Database Development and Mapping of Rural Water Infrastructure Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): A.J. Thomas, Stephen Marsh, David Porter In an effort to improve data resources for the Kansas One Call program, four agencies (Kansas Corporation Commission, Kansas Water Office, Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and Kansas Rural Water Association) have joined together to establish standardized procedures and system support to map rural water infrastructure across the state. The project objectives include: 1. acquire improved location data for water system features; 2. develop infrastructure and technical capability with the designated data custodian; 3. establish a comprehensive information system including GIS data structure based on ARCGIS Water Distribution Data Model, GIS data collection using ARCPAD or similar field data collection products and ARCGIS 8.1, GIS data maintenance based on ARCIMS, GIS map production with ARCMAP, and GIS data distribution anticipating ARCPUBLISHER; 4. our final objective is to serve the needs of the water systems. At present, we are focusing on field procedure development and the data model structure. We have enlisted the aid of Burns & McDonnell Engineering and spent a day with them brainstorming these issues. This session will review our progress, issues, and conclusions. A.J.
