AbstractAssessing Urban Development Using Biodiversity as Criterion in Kitahiroshima, Japan Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Saiha Sung, Funtoshi Nakamura, Masami Kaneko, Dr. Yoshiyuki Ikegam This paper examines the relationship between biodiversity and physical environmental factors, develops a potential biodiversity map based on the biodiversity-physical relationship, examines the relationship between biodiversity and its landscape in consideration of edge effect and patch size, and evaluates current land use status and proposed improvement plans. Biodiversity will be evaluated from two aspects: physical environment and landscape effect. We estimated the potential biodiversity conditions based on the relationship between physical environment and biodiversity, and the relationship between biodiversity and land-use by using buffer zones with different sized and moving window technique.
