AbstractStormwater Modeling in Richland County, South Carolina Track: Water Distribution, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Clark Archer, Tzee Kiu Chow Developments in remote sensing and geographical information systems (GIS) have extended the capabilities of engineers to analyze and model stormwater features and events. Land cover and elevation models have been derived from satellite imagery and LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) data. These layers, combined with soil information in GIS can be used to model the discharge pattern of urban watersheds. Avenue and VBA scripts have been created to customize the modeling environment and enable users to generate input parameters for use in hydrologic analysis programs. Sensitivity analyses of modeled peak discharge to DEM resolution and LIDAR post-spacing were also conducted to evaluate the functional relationships for stormwater modeling.
