Abstract

Managing Local Data for a Major Event
Track: Homeland Security
Author(s): Jerelyn Creutz

In order to ensure a common operational picture and consistency of data for Olympic public safety, a central geospatial data warehouse of over 50 GB of imagery, infrastructure and demographic data drawn from multiple local, state, and Federal sources was assembled. Operations and GIS personnel throughout the Olympic theater were able to access the data through various means, including Citrix-based, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE solutions. The repository included photo imagery, LIDAR imagery, 3D building models, site folder data for key sites, e and specialized population databases prepared specifically for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, as well as best-of-breed critical infrastructure, asset, and demographic data layers.
