This presentation will address how your department or agency can get a jump-start on a Geographic Information System for Homeland Security. Jim Howard of DESC will explain how his experience preparing for the 2002 Winter Olympics, Federal Court House Vulnerability Assessments and his Oklahoma City bombing involvement gave him insight into data harvesting for Public Safety and Homeland Security. The focus will be on how to re-purpose existing GIS data into "responder-friendly" decision aids for disasters and everyday use. Departmental GIS is one spoke on the overall Homeland Security GIS Wheel. Scalable and compatible data are essential for a smooth transition from normal operations to catastrophic disasters.
