AbstractApplication of GIS to Sustainable Community Planning: Practical Study in Haramachi, Japan Track: EMS, Fire, Disaster Management Author(s): Keiko Inagaki Haramachi is a medium-sized city located 80 km South of Sendai in the northern part of the island of Honshu, Japan. The City is situated in a forested coastal environment contains a variety of habitat closely surrounding the city. The city features a variety of environments, inlcuding beach, national forest, downtown, and urban forest. GIS has been selected as a planning tool for sustainable community planning in the city. The goal of this project is realization of Sustainable Community. This paper will describe some of the actual projects.
