Mobile Mapping Tool for Exotic Plant Species Control Using ArcPad Track: Agriculture Author(s): Earl Dame Historically, field mapping of exotic plant species has been done by traditional methods, which comprised of delineated aerial photographs and hand written notes. This process allowed for a large margin of cartographic error and subjective input. With the advent of modern mapping, field technicians can now navigate to target locations and collect attribute data electronically. This paper discusses how a mobile mapping application was developed for the inventory of exotic plant species in Hillsborough County, Florida. Esri's ArcPad 6.01 and Trimble's GeoXM handheld GPS receivers were used to develop a tool for "on the fly" mapping of exotic species and their locations. Custom interfaces were created so that plant attributes can be collected "in situ" and compared with historic data sets. Also, descriptive plant information can be stored as a variable of a geographic feature. Earl Dame Hillsborough County, Florida BOCC Information and Technology Services 601 E.
