Updating Performance Measures of Minnesota's Interregional Corridor System
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Banette Kritzky

Citizens of Minnesota expect quick, reliable, and safe travel. Traffic delays cost money and affects the ability of businesses to meet customer expectations. Unfortunately, many key highways are under increasing growth, and development pressures threaten their ability to meet expectations. In February, 1999, Mn/DOT identified key transportation corridors and adopted an Interregional Corridor (IRC) System in January, 2000. The goal of the IRC System is to enhance economic vitality of the state by providing safe, timely, and efficient movement of goods and people. The IRC corridors tie the state together by connecting people with jobs, distributors with manufacturers, and shoppers with retailers.

To maintain the IRC goal, performance measures are updated each year to determine the IRC's performance. MnDOT has developed a methodology to analyze current and future forecasts of the IRC System to determine when corridors fall to an under-performing status.
