Creating a GIS Web Site Using Visual Basic .NET and the ActiveX Connector
Track: Application Development
Author(s): Brad Barnell

Greenwood County is a medium sized county with a mature GIS and a heavily used ArcIMS Web site. The county Web site is written in Visual Basic .Net using the ActiveX connector and is an example of a lightweight Web application that loads quickly, even on a dial-up Internet connection. The site has an ArcReader look-and-feel and has many advanced features including a comparable properties tool. The Web site has greatly reduced the amount of GIS staff time required to provide information to the public. This paper will demonstrate our Web site and explain the technologies used to develop it.
