EMHURR: Hurricane Tracking for Emergency Managers With ArcIMS Track: Climate, Weather and Atmosphere Author(s): Ira Graffman, John Kozimor, Francis Richards In early spring of 2003, the National Weather Service (NWS) began development of an experimental ArcIMS site. This site was designed to allow Emergency Managers in the Southeast United States to access weather information from a variety of sources prior to and during a hurricane or tropical storm's land fall. This project benefited from excellent inter- and intra-agency cooperation. Several NWS sites contributed real-time data, and other line agencies within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) the parent organization of NWS contributed data and software to the project. This paper will describe the data types and the ArcIMS Web site using screen shots or live demos. Lessons learned and future plans for the Web site and ArcIMS will also be discussed.
