Honolulu Board of Water Supply: Leveraging GIS Investment With GPS Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Ellen Hirayama, Scott Cattran The Honolulu Board of Water Supply (HBWS) built their GIS network using as-builts and schematic drawings. The saying "as-built is not as-constructed" is proving to be true as the GPS pilot is showing that there are many new features that do not exist in the GIS and features that are shown in the GIS no longer exist in the field. This presentation describes how HBWS created an architecture that enables them to leverage their existing GIS investment, continue to update the GIS during the GPS data collection process, and quickly resolve discrepancies that arise between the field and the existing GIS database. This presentation will be beneficial to anyone who wants to learn more about building a more accurate GIS using GPS technology.
