Distributed ArcGIS Batch Processing Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Jeffery Nighbert Most computer analysis will run quickly on a single computer these days, given the speed and capabilities of ArcGIS. There are times when it is useful to take advantage of offline or batch processing. For example, converting entire multi-gigabyte databases would not be timely or feasible on a personal workstation. In a typical office environment only one third of the personal computer resources are utilized during the day. Two thirds of the time, they sit idle. This paper will offer a method of utilizing unused computer resources for ArcGIS process within current security restraints. Three case examples from from Oregon State Office of the Bureau of Land Management will be presented.
