CAD Integration and GIS for an Archaeological Heritage Park in Petra, Jordan Track: Archaeology Author(s): Lisa Pierce The Heshemite University, in collaboration with the Jordanian Department of Antiquities' recently used the Petra Archaeological Park as the context for the development of GIS curriculum for cultural resource managers. GIS training material was written so it could be applied to Park management issues. Topics included identifying management zones, coordinating archaeological activities and associated affiliations, and logistics management needs within a complex mix of regional stakeholder and the Bedouin tribal context. CAD data is often the most available data that helps move archaeologists to a better means for managing both the cultural resources management issues and site specific archaeological analysis. This paper presents some of the issues of CAD data quality and how quality improvements can improve GIS analysis goals. Strategies are identified to improve methods for survey specialists to capture metadata information about scale, resolution and precision as data is acquired. This paper also discusses how these issues can impact metadata management and 3D visualization.
