Mt. Morris Dam Emergency Action Plan
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Paul Murawski

The construction and operation of a dam and reservoir creates a potential hazard to interests located downstream of the dam. The Mt. Morris Dam and Reservoir was studied by the Buffalo District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate the impacts of a potential dam failure. HEC-RAS and Geo-RAS were used to create an unsteady flow model of the dam and Genesee River. ArcGIS was used to develop flood inundation maps, identify areas of concern, plan emergency escape routes, and create map books which will be provided to local decision makers to aid in planning their response.
