Who, What, When, and Where in the Construction Industry
Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction
Author(s): Jim Etro

"Who, What, When, and Where" are the questions that a reporter answers. They are also the essential pieces of information driving safe and effective work. In the construction industry, a Supervisor may need to know when and where to schedule crane services or how to react to personnel casualty. Consulting Engineers may need to understand an unexpected impediment to work. The Owners may need to see the job in summary so that they understand what has been accomplished. This paper addresses a temporal and spatial information system that facilitates visualization and understanding of the construction environment and the project in near real-time via the web. It is of value for job planning and monitoring; and for cataloging, retrieving, and viewing the data and information (video, voice, images, sonar, text,) pertinent to the job.
