Michigan's Comprehensive GIS for Emergency Management and Homeland Security
Track: Homeland Security
Author(s): Eric Nischan

The State of Michigan Emergency Management Division (EMD) set out five years ago to develop a comprehensive information management system for disaster planning, response, recovery and mitigation. GIS was instantly recognized as a key component of this system and now stands at the core of EMD operations. By integrating a cutting edge incident management system and hazard modeling extensions with Esri GIS, the state has created a powerful tool for public safety. Come see how Michigan is applying GIS to everything from floods and power outages to homeland security and nuclear power plants. This session will also include the lessons learned along the way to implementing this constantly evolving system.
