Implementation and Conversion to ArcSDE for the Inexperienced and Uninitiated Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Matthew Malone The Charter Township of Grand Blanc's GIS Department recently converted all GIS data from shapefiles and coverages to the robust enterprise geodatabase format. Topics will include best conversion practices, database configuration options, MXD file setup, editing with versioning, and miscellaneous tips and tricks discovered on the journey. Special attention will also be given toward the constraints imposed by attempting such an effort in a smaller unit of local government with limited information technology personnel. Implementing and converting GIS data successfully to ArcSDE 8.3 may not be the path of least resistance, but the effort pays off handsomely in the end through simplified data maintenance, distribution, and topological capabilities.
