Community Colleges Partnered With Industry = GIS Success
Track: Education
Author(s): Robert Welch

Community Colleges cultivating Business and Industry can make for flowering partnerships and fruitful production. The development of a new 270,000 square foot technology center at a new campus for Lansing Community College gave LCC the opportunity to expand and cultivate numerous partnerships with business and industry. One of these involves a new center in Alternative Energies and Sustainabilty. Grants involving NEXTENERGY, and the Department of Energy will allow LCC to continue to develop these partnerships. The building will utilize geothermal technologies and showcase this and other renewables with a GIS tracking lab at its core. Classes and training are being developed for a national audience and companies like Siemans are already on board. National associations like Geospatial Information Technology Association (GITA) are part of making this center a rescource for industry, business and colleges to share and develop training programs. The University of Michigan, Wayne State University and many others are already part of this partnership. Join us and learn more.
