Historical Aerial Photography Orthorectified for Prince Georges County, MD Track: Remote Sensing Imagery Author(s): Michael Shean, Greg Tilley Prince Georges County, Maryland, needed a way to integrate their valuable historical photography archive into their current GIS system. By leveraging control and DEMs from a 2000 orthophotography purchase, the County was able to have scans of their 1965 photo archive orthorectified. The result is a countywide mosaic that works seamlessly with their modern GIS layers, allowing for easy access to the historical record for permit reviews and land use change analysis. This paper discusses the procedures used, challenges encountered and benefits derived from the project.
