NHDGeo Edit: Tools for Keeping the National Hydrography Dataset Current
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Brian Sanborn

The intent of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) program is that the data is stewarded by local partners and that USGS maintains the data in a single repository for management and distribution. Local stewardship of the data allows editing by the local users most familiar with the features on the ground. Edits are made on distributed subsets of the NHD data and are incorporated into the NHD Repository. The NHDGeo Edit toolset was developed for local partners to make edits to the NHD using ArcMap. These tools support updating attributes and geometry of existing features and also the creation of new features. Feature relationship rules are applied during the editing process. Information for tracking edits, including feature level metadata, are maintained by the tools. The user interface utilizes a Task Assistant to guide the editor through the sequenced editing processes. The NHDGeo Edit tools and editing process will be presented.
