Critical Infrastructure and GIS
Track: Homeland Security
Author(s): Phil Thiel

In response to the 9/11 attack on the United States, local, state, and federal agencies have realized the importance of Spatial Data and its role in the Mitigation, Response, and Recovery of both man-made and natural disasters. The effort of building a National Spatial Data Infrastructure to support Homeland Securities is seen as 'A National Effort to Coordinate and Collect Local Data.' In order to ensure that these data sets are consistent, we are proposing the adoption of a National Model for Critical Infrastructure. We'll discuss the proposed model in detail and offer a starting point from which State and Local Governments can begin to collect data that will eventually feed into this National Model.
