Natural Resource Data Extraction: Tools for Managers
Track: Environmental Management
Author(s): Christopher McGinty, Dennis Wright, R Ramsey

Land managers and stewasrd are continually searching for quality geospatial data for informed, time-sensitive decisions. Existing datasets such as digital elevation models (DEMs), hydrology, vegetation, soil, etc., allow managers instant or near instant access to critical information. Unfortunately, many land managers have neither the time nor knowledge necessary to use existing data. However, we have developed methods and prototypes that allow land managers instant access to critical remotely sensed and GIS data. Furthermore, we have worked with land managers around the state of Utah and Nevada to fine-tune solutions. This paper will discuss our successes and failures with land managers and helping them to effectively use geospatial data.
