Using ArcGIS in High Volume Map Production: Two Case Studies Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): Jim Pritchard, Emmy Andrews, Joan Rickard High volume map production projects require specialized processes and techniques to be completed efficiently. This paper presents the technical details of implementing high volume map production tools in two case studies. In the first project, the City of Walnut Creek 2025 General Plan, Farallon developed a series of map templates and standards using ArcGIS for several different map sizes and scales. The templates have allowed the City and Farallon to rapidly generate high-quality, consistent, and repeatable hard copy output. The second project, for East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, required production of a book of fire run maps to be deployed in their emergency vehicles, where each page represented a County grid square. For this project Farallon used Esri's Map Book Generator extension, which allowed changes made to a template to propagate to all maps immediately, greatly increasing the efficiency and ease of map production.
