2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Utilize GIS as the Foundation for Enterprise Solution Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Ming Zhao, Geoff Stevens The concept of GIS as a centralized enterprise asset rather than a cartographic tool is gaining acceptance. Enterprise GIS takes an organizational approach for sharing and managing spatial information. At Otay Water District, with the completion of Geodatabase implementation, an organizationwide enterprise solution that will provide integrated functionality between infrastructure management, work order, permitting, financial, and GIS is in progress. The presentation will address a central issue of how to integrate GIS with other systems while eliminating data duplication and redundancy. The detail discussion will be presented on how GIS's unique spatial relationships fit into different applications and how to maintain the GIS data integrity at the same time. The presentation will focus on the system architecture, the business logic, and the technical challenges we have experienced.
