The Next Revolution: Digital Aerial Camera Mapping
Track: New Technology and System Integration
Author(s): Krysia Sapeta

This presentation will discuss mapping with the use of digital aerial camera imagery. The latest revolution of this technology allows for more efficient creation or enhancement of the orthophoto, planimetric, and/or topographic layers in your GIS. There are currently three main classes of aerial digital cameras that provide varying degrees of precision. GIS professionals must be aware of how to evaluate the accuracy of these cameras and how to set specifications to maintain the spatial accuracy of GIS information. The pros and cons of digital vs. analog cameras will be presented. The specifications for orthophoto resolution and spatial accuracy for data creation using this new digital aerial camera technology will also be discussed.
