DEM Sreet Burning Methodology for an Urban Stormwater Drainage System Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Kalvan Hone The integration of a vector hydrography layer into a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) prior to watershed delineation is commonly referred to as stream burning. In urban areas where the topography has been modified by development, streets are often designed to function as conveyance facilities. This creates a unique challenge for modeling a drainage system in which both natural and man-made features become integrated in purpose. To do this, a combination of both stream and street vectors is used in the stream burning process normally associated with natural features alone. This paper will evaluate one method for combining streets that serve as stormwater conveyance facilities with an existing stream channel network for burning into a DEM used in automated watershed delineation.
