2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Anatomy of a Successful Municipal Enterprise GIS and ROI Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Todd Jackson Since January 2000, the City's GIS has grown from one department to eight departments implementing GIS technology in their workflows and business processes. Today, GIS technology has become an integral part of the City's process for conducting business as a direct result of the continued professional development and hard work performed by all departments. The City uses the technology in a variety of applications from law enforcement to utility mapping, economic development (Web Services), parks and recreation, planning and zoning, and emergency services. The Enterprise GIS is the common thread that incorporates data from these disciplines, data traditionally maintained and isolated within a specific department. The presentation will cover technology used including specific web and desktop applications, which have dramatically enhanced the City's level of services; the importance of managing organizational change and user expectation; a list of lessons learned from projects and participants and the impact valid ROI has contributed to system acceptance and growth.
