2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Preview of AWARE (All-hazard Warning And Risk Estimation) Track: Homeland Security Author(s): Allen Jakobitz AWARE (All-hazard Warning And Risk Estimation) is the name of the new web site developed by Washington State Emergency Management (WSEM). This presentation will include a sneak preview of the web site and cover the background of its development. The project is being financed by the State of Washington and a NASA grant. Last year WSEM collected historical satellite data, which is being continued monthly. This year the data are being used to create remote sensing products that are used as part of the hazard analysis process. The results from these analyses will be put on the AWARE web site monthly to provide local emergency managers and other interested persons with an enhanced awareness of hazards for the subsequent months. The supporting remote sensing products will also be available on-line. These products used with GIS have added a new dimension to traditional emergency management hazard analysis techniques.
