Windmills Site Selection Using Remote Sensing and GIS Track: Environmental Management Author(s): Kanagavel Selvavinayagam Windmills were the major source of electrical energy. They form the major source of renewable energy. Erection of windmills promotes industrial development, tourism and other coastal infrastructure facilities. In order to sustain the environment in an eco-friendly manner, windmill site selection is carried out in North Passage Island. This island falls near the four major inhabitatat islands such as North Andaman, Bartang, Strait, and Long. Electricity generated in North Passage Island could be transferred to these nearest islands. For windmill site selection Coastal Geomorphology, Wave action and Landuse studies were carried out and integrated using Remote Sensing and GIS. Site specific location for erecting wind mills is demarcated using Arc Overlay techniques. Advantage of erecting windmill in this island is also discussed.
