Bridging the Gap Between GIS and ERP at Alagasco Track: Electric and Gas Author(s): Butch Wallace, Eric Fulcher, Eric Fulcher The independent, yet concurrent implementations of both GIS and ERP applications left Alagasco with the need to streamline its gas distribution engineering design processes. Engineers were using paper and antiquated tools to create the designs, and subsequently reentering the designs in both the GIS and the ERP systems. To create a more efficient process, Alagasco implemented an engineering tool to leverage the existing functionality of their GIS and ERP applications, enabling engineers to perform designs in the GIS, generate the necessary design documentation, track the design through the approval process, and then transfer the design specifications to the ERP system. This customized engineering tool reduces data entry, encourages design standardization, and ensures better data quality in both the ERP and GIS applications.
