Homeland Security and Hazardous Material Management for a Community College
Track: Homeland Security
Author(s): John Walker

The Community College of Baltimore County is a multi-campus institution in Baltimore County, Maryland. Each of its three major campuses has multiple buildings, major utilities systems, substantial amounts of hazardous materials, student populations above 10,000 and is generally accessible. In this time of increased security awareness, a geographic information system to plan for and respond to natural, accidental and purposeful threats/incidents is being implemented. The system will provide planning and response information on buildings, utilities, chemical, and petroleum storage and crime incidents to college personnel and local police and fire departments through ArcIMS. It will also meet OSHA and EPA requirements for "Hazardous Communications" and "Right to Know" information.
