Network Management Through Integrated Environment and Geodatabase Track: Telecommunications Author(s): Renato Pietropaolo, Nicola Iorio, Carmelo Rossicone, Giuseppe Pipicelli UNICA-RA project is meant to make it possible for Telecom Italia to have a centralized hardware architecture and an integrated (graphical + alphanumerical components) system/database in place of all existing systems. Moreover it represents the chance to migrate from CAD-file system data organization toward a GIS continuum database environment. Major benefits are expected in terms of availability of an integrated environment for designing, upgrading and operation of the network, real time upgrade of the database, overall processes optimisation, with consequent time and costs reduction in the network implementation and operation. The project covers infrastructures data plus copper and fiber networks. The sditing of the network is based on a client application developed on ArcEditor that operates on a centralized enterprise geodatabase; dedicated visualizations and plotting functionalities have been developed in a Web-based environment through ArcIMS.
