2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Use of ArcPad During the 2004 Census Test Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Sonya DeSha Hill As part of the 2004 Census Test, the Census Bureau will examine the use of Hand Held Computers (HHCs) in census data collection activities. This followup is conducted within a field operation called Nonresponse Followup or NRFU. Field staff conducting the NRFU operation requires maps to help locate the followup addresses. This electronic map system on the HHC will replace all of the 11 by 17-inch paper maps used in the field during the Census 2000 NRFU operation. The three major components comprising the electronic map system on the HHCs are geographic input data generated from the TIGER database into shapefile format, the cartographic design that defines how the geographic data appears within the electronic map system, and the customized user interface that allows the user to work with the electronic map view shown.
