Implementing Integrated Web Mapping Solutions Using ArcIMS and .NET Track: Application Development Author(s): Graham Toms Web mapping solutions are often designed as standalone applications using the "silo" approach. The Vancouver Port Authority in conjunction with INFORM developed a suite of applications in 2003 which demonstrate how effectively ArcIMS, .NET, and XML can be used as flexible building blocks for developing multiple integrated business applications with a spatial component. The applications include a custom map user control and Web service deployed on the Port's Web portal to be used for vessel tracking, a spatial extension to an infrastructure asset management application, and a spatial front-end to an environmental site monitoring database. This paper will review the development approach and discuss how it can be leveraged for future applications.
