Taking Advantage of Your Enterprise GIS System Track: Application Development Author(s): Jeremy Bartley Are you taking advantage of your enterprise GIS system? ArcIMS is a powerful visualization tool that brings GIS to the non-GIS user. ArcIMS in combination with ArcSDE and an enterprise database provides many opportunities yet to be explored by GIS users. The real-time database integration tools that are available within ArcIMS to join complex attribute queries to spatial data layers, through traditional database views, are easy to use, but provide powerful visualization results. Examples will be shown of how to map complex multidimensional datasets with ArcIMS. These examples include time-series mapping of Kansas petroleum data by section, time-series mapping of historical sea surface temperatures by one-degree cells, and three-dimensional subsurface mapping of stratigraphic depths in Kansas.
