An ArcSDE Data Maintenance System Incorporating Rapid Feedback Response Loops
Track: System Implementation for GIS
Author(s): Mark Harley, Brad Gellerstedt, Brad Gellerstedt

Effective GIS data maintenance requires timely delivery of revisions to end-users. When administering large data sets, it can be challenging to manage numerous updates and track simultaneous versions. This paper describes a successful mechanism, utilizing a geodatabase in ArcGIS 8.3, for soliciting and collecting feedback, incorporating data improvements, and rapidly deploying updates to end-users. An ArcSDE transactional update system is described, which accelerates the update process and maximizes data availability. Examples are cited where user feedback was quickly incorporated into a master database and subsequently replicated to a client's enterprise geodatabase.
