2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Exercise in Designing a Wastewater Object Model Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Brad Morrow In 1999, Atlanta was issued a consent decree by the U.S. Department of Justice to reduce overflows from their sanitary sewer system. The City contracted the Project Management Team (a joint including KHAFRA) to assist with compliance. Since that time, KHAFRA has assisted the Department of Watershed Management's efforts to improve the sewer mapping system by converting their CADD data to a GIS format and finally to an Enterprise solution. Prior to this migration, an object model had to be designed for the City's collection system to take full advantage of advanced geo-processing functionality. Understanding the present and potential data usage, then adopting a methodological approach are key to developing a geodatabase. Still, not all objectives have been fully realized; related tables are not dynamically linked and the full potential of the geodatabase has not been realized. Nonetheless, an Enterprise GIS has been established and is being actively utilized.
