2004 UC Proceedings Abstract
Using GIS to Visualize Alternative Futures Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Dick Klosterman This presentation will examine a new generation of GIS-based planning support systems (PSS) that allow GIS professionals, elected officials, and the public visualize alternative futures for their community. The systems combine readily available GIS information on the supply of developable land with projections for future growth trends and alternative public policy choices to provide scenarios which explore a range of possible futures. The systems are designed to support community-based processes of community visioning and collaborative planning.
