 Software Migration at King County, WA: Planning and Early Implementation Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Lisa Castle We at King County GIS have embarked upon the path of migrating our coverage-based, AML software-driven data processes to a geodatabase-driven data warehouse and data production system. Our large distributed enterprise system consists of the central enterprise group and sixteen member agencies with widely varied GIS business needs, data needs, financial constraints, and GIS sophistication. This paper discusses the formulation of the software migration plan, the challenges of meeting the needs of our disparate data stewards and users, and the beginnings of the implementation phase, which began in early 2004.
