 GIS Sweeping Our Streets Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Elizabeth Mueller, Fay Faulkner The City of San Diego Transportation Department, Street Division is responsible for the maintenance of more than 2700 miles of City Streets. The Street Sweeping Program is one functional area of the division and is responsible for the sweeping of all commercial and residential streets. The Street Sweeping (GPS) Global Positioning System Application was created as part of the City's Synergy Program, which responded to the need for an effective and integrated inventory work management process. This GPS application was created based on the primary need to track the street sweeping process down to an individual street section.
