Providing Public Access to King County GIS Data
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Michael Jenkins

King County, Washington develops and maintains a large amount of GIS data to meet the business needs of the departments and divisions within the County government. As a public agency, we have made a point to provide access to this valuable data to other State and local government agencies as well as to the general public. In the past three years, King County has made a substantial amount of this data available through the Internet by utilizing ArcIMS. This service has proved to be so popular that we received more than one million user sessions on our mapping server in 2003. This success assures that ArcIMS is part of our long-range strategy for providing public access to King County GIS data.
